CANADIAN VHS SYNOPSIS: John Candy stars in this gripping murder mystery about greed, lust and revenge. Its Halloween Eve and four college friends plot to kidnap the wife of a wealthy friend at a costume party. Supposedly a practical joke designed to frustrate a midnight real estate closing, the kidnapping is really inspired by the group's lust for their friend's beautiful wife, and envy of his unearned wealth. Their identities and motives masked behind clown costumes, the four soon slip from comedy into deadly seriousness. By night's end, what started out as a joke has become a terrifying nightmare. From beginning to end, this movie will prove you can't clown around with murder!!!

The Clown Murders is a 1976 Canadian drama/mystery/thriller/horror film directed by Martyn Burke. It was one of the earliest films in which John Candy appears. Also stars Stephen Young, Susan Keller, Lawrence Dane, Gary Reineke, John Bayliss, Al Waxman, Michael Magee, Cec Linder, William Osler and Philip Craig. The film is really a boring drama but by the looks of the DVD cover it's marketed as a slasher flick.

Released by Astral Films in its native Canada on September 17, 1976 then released to VHS by Interglobal Home Video in 1987. In the United States, the VHS was released in 1985 by Trans World Entertainment and on DVD in 2007 by Image Entertainment under license from Cinevision International.

I couldn't find a trailer online but I did find this clip from the film:

Every year, as summer comes to an end, the Witching Season will begin. Tree shake their leaves and the air begins to crisp. Cities and neighborhoods develop an certain eeriness as images of witches, ghouls, goblins, and skeletons can be found in every which direction. There is a smell in the air that only exists for a brief moment in time. This is what The Witching Season is about -- the nostalgia and atmosphere of the Halloween season.

The series is influenced by classic anthology shows such as Tales From The Crypt, Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, Tales From The Darkside, and Goosebumps. Each episode tells an original tale of terror set during the magical time of Halloween season.

VHS SYNOPSIS: Half man, half beast, he lurks inside the mansion killing all one by one as he follows the murderous instincts of his twisted mind. A macabre tale of three young people who spend a night in mysterious Garth Mansion as part of their initiation into Alpha Sigma Rho fraternity and its sister sorority. The murderous history of the mansion not only would make anyone shudder, but would keep anyone miles away from the place...who will live to tell about hell night.

Hell Night is a 1981 American independent horror film directed by Tom DeSimone, written by Randy Feldman, and starring Linda Blair, Vincent Van Patten, Peter Barton, Kevin Brophy, Jenny Neumann, Suki Goodwin, Jimmy Sturtevant, Hal Ralston, Carey Fox, Ron Gans, Gloria Heilman and Jean Hasselhoff. The film blends elements of slasher flicks and Creature Features, and has developed a large cult following. Linda Blair was nominated for a Razzie Awards for Worst Actress. The characters never mention anything about Halloween, but they're are all wearing costumes, so I like to think it takes place on All Hallows Eve.

The movie was released to VHS in the USA by Media Home Entertainment in 1982, followed by a Video Treasures VHS release in 1988 and then Anchor Bay Entertainment, Inc. released the film both on VHS and DVD in 1999. In 2003 Anchor Bay released the film on a Double Feature DVD along with the 1980 film Fade To Black.
